Destination Profile
The design-mad Danish capital is just the start for those who hop on cheap flights to Copenhagen from New Zealand. Once you're done flitting between the workshops, brewhouses, and pretty Old Town area there, you've also got a real jewel of Scandinavia to explore. That could mean the wild archipelago islands of Funen, where seabirds do battle with the icy winds that lash off the Baltic. It could mean heading for the quaint villages of Bornholm, where you can cycle amid fishing skiffs and taste salted cod. Or, it's a chance to break out to bucolic Jutland, a region of Viking relics and rugged coast.
Nyhavn is the erstwhile home of Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen. These days, it pulses with jazz bars, coffee shops, and waterside eateries.
Tivoli Gardens are one of the world's only urban theme parks. Drop in to ride rattling rollercoasters and whirl around fantastical carousels.
Copenhagen's Old Town is like something from a Scandi fairy tale. Within, ice-cream colored homes lean over stony alleys, teahouses beckon on the street corners, and rotund towers are ringed by crenulations.
No airlines fly non-stop between New Zealand and Copenhagen.
Qatar Airways is the best airline to fly from New Zealand to Copenhagen.
